Vegas
We were gobsmacked at some of the sights we saw in Vegas; (surreal) it’s a world of its own.
It started with us following a pink Cadillac with fluffy dice from the airport, driven by Elvis, to our hotel and ended in a tour of the cities represented on the Las Vegas Strip (all 4 miles of it).
We were in awe of the extravagance. Palazzo Ducale is closer to a canal than it has ever been, here with an incongruous advert adorning the facia and an ugly hotel in the background.
Cowboys and girls paraded around half naked apart from the boots; every conceivable space has either a posh shop, restaurant or a casinos, pokies (slot machines) or an imitation something.
Sarah lost $5 in record time on the pokies
By the way, if you are our age, and ever wondered what happened to the Osmonds, Donnie and Marie, they are all here.
Some of the Strip is like a huge Hong Kong shopping mall with a huge amount of gambling thrown in. A competition based on lights, glamour and tatt. You can walk between imitation cities without ever going outside. The highlights were:
New York - Statue of liberty and sky line. The closest we will ever get with the camera!
Paris: - complete with its own Eiffel tour, and the Louvre.
Luxor: – rather a smooth glass pyramid (outside view from the Skyfall lounge)
and large plaster pharaohs and glitzy palm trees (inside)
Venice:
The Doges palace, with tromp l’oeil floors
and painted ceilings;
lions, canals, gondolas and bridge of sighs.
You can view all from inside the palace shopping mall. Not something a Doge would approve of?
Caesars Palace:
The 3 storey Greek columned shopping mall, with huge staircases,
fountains and false ceiling with blue sky and white fluffy clouds.
Dark even though it was broad daylight outside.
Sarah found some shoes named after her company. (although Sarah Jessica Parker might have something to say about that)
Bellagio’s fountains at night were the best;
the Japanese tea house and cherry blossom a close second.
As well as people watching we enjoyed a Cirque Du Soleil show “One”; had a very successful shopping trip to one of the huge Outlet malls and played a round of golf at Desert Pines, filling our time easily.
If you have never been to Vegas, you might want to try it.
There is probably something for everyone.
