A week in London

Visited new places, experienced different things; always a joy in the sunshine in London.
Mum came on the train from Norwich for a few days for palaces and musicals.

Highlights were:
Kensington palace

and Buckingham palace tours.

Hamilton and Tina musicals

English Heritage: Apsley House  - Home of the Duke of Wellington, Hidden behind trees and Sarah at Hyde Park Corner.

and the Wellington Arch (They moved the Duke to Aldershot barracks and replaced him with winged victory in Edwardian times)

Quite intimidating from below

Managed to catch the changing of the guard as they returned to Barracks via Hyde Park Corner.

Cycling and walking along the Regent canal from Little Venice - through Regents park, past the zoo, all the canal house boats,

stopping for coffee at Camden Lock and on to the Limehouse basin.

Touristy boat trip along the Thames to Westminster
Tower bridge and wobbly bridge at St Pauls
London eye opposite Westminster. Not one MP to be seen as parliament is out.

London was not very busy in early September.
Horseguards Parade was empty. Probably no one interested in the Admiralty Building these days.

Culinary treats with friends:
Gilly, (Chutney Mary – Degustation curry anyone?)

and Hank

None of us could read the menu in the twilight of the Ivy Brasserie; we resorted to using the torch on Hank’s ancient mobile phone.

Tel in The Crown St Margarets.

Shazza and Debbie (brekkie in Covent Garden)
Family: Jeremy, Clare (at Ceru), Mum (Il Posto and Inamo)
All of these enjoyed with Sarah. leading me through the streets on London on a Boris bike.

Back to reality for me next week in New Zealand: medical appointments and blood tests. Fingers crossed that the body has not fallen apart again after a very long holiday. Maybe time for a rest?
